People may be used to seeing Friar Tuck as a short, stocky member of Robin Hood's merry men.

But Ontario's Alana Bridgewater is offering a "sassier"version of the character in Robyn Hood This Tale's Even Fairlier.

Plenty of local references

After opening on Dec. 9 at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, the play is set to close Saturday.

According to the centre's website, the play is a "new ridiculous musical celebration"with "plenty of local references."

For instance, the play takes place in the Kingdom of Charlottetown and is ruled by the evil Prince John. Outside the castle walls in the Sherwood-Parkdale Forest, Hood and her companions devise a plan to take from the rich and give back to the middle class.

Tuck as the 'voice of reason'

Besides being sassier, Bridgewater said on CBC Radio's Mainstreet P.E.I. that her version of Tuck is "more of a narrator"and the "voice of reason" while on stage.

Bridgewater has previously appeared in Spoon River and Hairspray at the Charlottetown Festival.

In addition to theatre, Bridgewater is an accomplished singer.

"Music is not only a part of my life as a job, it's also a passion. And, I find healing and growth and development listening to new music sometimes just taking time to have solace and be contemplative and take a break."
