P.E.I. school evacuations: Almost 3,000 P.E.I. students absent next day

More than 2,800 P.E.I. students stayed home from school on Thursday, a day after Island schools were evacuated because of a bomb threat.

Some Island parents decided to keep their children home from school Thursday, one day after schools on P.E.I. were evacuated because of a bomb threat.

According to P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch, 2,897 students from English schools stayed home from school on Thursday,

The average number of students absent on a regular day is fewerthan 1,000.

That equates to an 85 per cent attendance rate on Thursday. It's normally around 95 per cent.

Students have a day off school on Friday, which is a scheduled professional development day for teachers.
