Threat against P.E.I. schools likely originated in U.S., say police

Police say a threat made toward schools across P.E.I. in September isbelieved to have originated in the United States.

In an email to CBC News, RCMP Staff Sgt. Kevin Baillesaid the matter is still under investigation.

"The RCMP is working with law enforcement counterparts in the U.S. To date, there have been no charges laid in relation to the threat that was made," Baillewrote.

Schools province-wide were put under evacuation order on Sept. 21 after police received a threat claiming bombs were placed in a number of schools.

P.E.I. has 62 public schools and close to 20,000 students.

The threat was received by fax to RCMP in Ottawa, and it didn't specify any particular schools, but it did say the bombs would be detonated.

The threat was deemed not to be credible by RCMP after further investigation.

Three community college campuses were evacuated in Nova Scotia on the same day.
