Souris mayor happy town has financial surplus

The Town of Souris is in good financial shape thanks to some expenses being less than anticipated says the town's mayor.

New expenses may use up surplus in near future

The Town of Sourisis ingood financial shape thanks to some expenses being less than anticipated says the town's mayor.

Mayor David MacDonald said the town has a $24,000 surplus.

He added the chair of the finance committee spent the town's money wisely, something residents have come to expect based on surpluses over the past several years.

"There's a lot of expenditures, but by the same token we also run a pretty tight ship here and we don't spend money frivolously," said MacDonald.

"In today's day in age when governments seem to run deficits just for something to do, we're kind of proud of the fact that our head's above water."

ButMacDonaldsaid he knowsone bad situation could eat into the surplus.

He added extra expenses from the new municipal act may lead to the town to spend the surplus.

Souris'stotalbudget is $1.5 million.
