A 23-year-oldSummersideman appeared in court Wednesday morning after being charged withtheft under $5,000.

Man charged with stealing 2 TVs from church, possessing stolen rings, police say

A 23-year-oldSummersideman appeared in court Wednesday morning after being charged withtheft under $5,000.

He appeared in provincial courtafter two TVswere stolen from a church on Central Street in Summerside on Sunday morning during the church's service.

The incident was reported to Summerside police Tuesdayafter staff noticed the televisions missing.

Police said they identified the man as asuspect after watching video surveillance captured at the church.

Police said hewas located Tuesday afternoon and taken into custody.

The man was also charged with possessing stolen property in relation to a daytime break and enter into a Driscoll Street home on July 31, where rings were stolenwhenthe residents were home,police said.

Police saidthe man was apprehended thesame day as the theft, fortrying to sellrings at a local jewellery store.

The man will remaincustody and is scheduledtoappear in courtAug.19.
