Summerside mayor looking for ways to maintain city 'jewels'
Bill Martin is in Winnipeg for municipal leaders meeting
Summerside Mayor Bill Martin is looking for ideas on how to maintain and pay for city infrastructure.
It was one of the topics at the national meetings of municipal leaders being held in Winnipeg. The conference is a good opportunity to share ideas with other leaders across the country, Martin said.
Long-term infrastructure maintenance is an important issue for Summerside, he said, because his city needs to manage upkeep for things like its boardwalk and the Credit Union Place arena.
"We've got to start thinking about a reserve fund to replace the kinds of life-cycle things that are going to need replacing in a year or two or five or whatever, otherwise, as my CAO put it, the jewel of your community becomes somewhat jaded," he said.
