69-year-old Summerside man dies when hit by vehicle

Summerside police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle-pedestrian accident that happened in the P.E.I. city early Friday morning.

Man was not at crosswalk when struck by truck, police say

Summerside police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle-pedestrian accident that happened in the P.E.I. city early Friday morning.

Police said 69-year-old Angus MacDonalddied at the scene.

Cpl.JasonBlacquiere said MacDonaldwas crossing Water Street near Autumn Street at about 6:25 a.m. when the collision occurred.

"It looks like the pedestrian that was killed in the accident was crossing not in the crosswalk," he said. "It was further east of the crosswalk where he was attempting to cross the street and was struck by the oncoming truck."

Driver interviewed by police

The driver remained at scene and was interviewed by officers,Blacquieresaid. Police have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the collision.

Blacquieresaid the investigation is ongoing and it is too early to determine if any charges will be laid. He said police are waiting onthe autopsy report and as well as information from RCMP collision analysts.

Police looking for witnesses

Witnesses were interviewed at the scene, he said, and police are alsolooking for two vehicles that reportedly passed by the scene in the hopes the drivers can provide more details.

A section of Water Street was closed for a time for the investigation, but it has since reopened.
