The City of Charlottetown has launched a survey to make sure its new sustainability plan is going in the right direction.

Sustainability Officer Ramona Doyle said the current plan is six years old, and due for an upgrade.

The city has already met with community groups, and has held community meetings, she said, and the survey will be the final opportunity for community input in creating the new plan.

"I feel like we've had some really good successes over the last few years but I'm excited to build on those and move forward and create even more progress," said Doyle.

One of the questions on the survey asks people to prioritize issues for the city.

While a lot of people have answered that each option is equally important, one priority has been at the top so far.

"Number one was protecting and conserving water, both storm water and drinking water," said Doyle. "We're continuing to see that trend."

Next was reducing electricity consumption and looking at alternative sources of energy, followed by transportation and consuming local food.

"Once we've collected all this public consultation feedback, we'll be bringing this back to management staff as well as the council to talk about how can we make these happen," Doyle said.

The survey is on the city's website, and is open until March 18 at 5 p.m.
