Swoop, WestJet's discount airline, has delayed a number of new planned destinations, leaving Charlottetown out of its plans for this year.

Before COVID-19, the airline had planned tooffer three flights a week to Hamiltonstarting at the end of June.

The flights were intended to beoffered in Charlottetown on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from June 27 to Oct. 22.

With the airlinepostponing new routesuntil Oct. 24, Charlottetown will have to wait until next year to see if interest in travel picks up enough for Swoop to consider it as a destination again.

A return flight from Charlottetown to Hamilton in July was originallypriced under $200, with the Hamilton service meant to allow for connections to other parts of Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Any travellers affected are being contacted by email.

Clarifications

  • This story originally suggested flights might begin after Oct. 24, but they will not because there were no flights scheduled after that date.
