The provincial government is spending $20 million to expand aerospace training facilities for aerospace manufacturing and maintenance.

The government is planning to build a new B.C. Institute of Technology aerospace campus at Vancouver International Airport, replacing the old hanger now used for training.

There will also be a new training facility in Vernon, plus improvements to current facilities in Abbotsford and Dawson Creek.

The money will create 500 new student spaces in B.C. over the next two to three years.

Premier Gordon Campbell says the B.C. aircraft industry is about to grow dramatically.

"We have to recognize that aerospace manufacturing and maintenance sectors are expected to need 10,000 additional workers in British Columbia in the next eight years."
