Power restored following thunderstorm

A severe thunderstorm warning has ended for Queens and Kings counties, but not before 1,400 Maritime Electric customers lost power.

Maritime Electric crews were able to quickly fix the problem, whichaffected an area along the Northumberland Strait from Vernon Bridge to Wood Islands.

EnvironmentCanada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for all of P.E.I. just before 11 a.m., and upgraded it to a warning for Queens and Kings counties in the early afternoon as a thunderstorm ran along the South Shore.

The warning has reverted again to a watch, which remains in effect for all of P.E.I. Environment Canada's forecast shows a risk of thunderstorms through to Tuesday evening.

At 1:50 p.m. the Canadian Lightning Danger Map showed a storm over Kings County.

In addition to the danger of lightning, storms canbring strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Should you hear thunder, Environment Canada recommends you seek shelter immediately.
