More than 200 competitors will compete at the Trilobster Triathlon on Sunday.

Three of them will be from the same family.

Alex, Maddy and Jeremy Neuffer of Stratford will take part in the running, cycling and and swimming competition in Summerside, P.E.I., one of five events across the country where competitors can qualify for spots at next year's world championships.

"It's fun to do an event here," Alex said. "They're doing a really good job of making it big and there are going to be a lot of people there so it's cool that we can actually have something like that in P.E.I."

Training for Canada Games

Alex, 21, is training to compete for P.E.I. at the next Canada Games in 2017. He's too old for triathlon, but still qualifies for track.

Maddy, 17, and Jeremy, 15, are hoping they will land a spot on the triathlon team this time around.

"It's been fun because I did the whole Canada Games thing already," Alex said. "Now they're hoping to go to Canada Games for triathlon so it's fun to kind of help them along and teach them stuff I can."

From one to six

When the Island hosted the Canada Games in 2009, there was only one P.E.I. competitor in triathlon. Next year the Island plans to field a full team of six.

And there's even an Island triathlete Martin Sobey competing at the international level.

"He was in my footsteps kind of thing just a few years ago so it's cool to see how far he's gone," Alex said.

Organizers hope by hosting the world qualifier in Summerside, they will attract even more Islanders to the sport.
