Victoria Park floating dock to get its public meeting

Charlottetown has decided to hold a public meeting on the proposed floating dock for Victoria Park.

Council's initial position was that a public meeting was not necessary

Charlottetown has decided to hold a public meeting on the proposed floating dock for Victoria Park.

The new structure was originally supposed to be installed by mid-August last year, but it was put on hold because it required an agreement with the port authority, and it got to be too late in the season. There were also concerns raised by the public that it would increase traffic, and that it didn't fit the original intention of the park.

Initially the city said a meeting wasn't necessary because it wasn't a permanent structure, but after getting a legal opinion council and staff changed their minds.

Council says since the floating dock will be connected to Victoria Park it fits the definition of development.

There will be an open house at Rodd Charlottetown starting at 6 p.m. on May 27, with a question and answer session starting at 7 p.m.
