P.E.I. plebiscite sees nearly 10 per cent voter turnout so far

9,749 ballots have been cast in the P.E.I. plebiscite on electoral reform as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Elections P.E.I.

Registered voters have until Nov. 7 to rank five electoral systems in order of preference

P.E.I. has seen 9,749 ballots cast in the plebisciteon electoral reform as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Elections P.E.I.

That accounts for 9.56 per cent ballots cast.

Of that amount, 82 per cent of those ballots have been cast online, with 15 per cent by phone with another threeper cent coming from mobile polls at nursing homes and care facilities.

Registered voters have until Nov. 7 to rank fiveelectoral systems in order of preference.

Voting is now open online or by telephone.

In-person paper ballot voting takes place Nov. 4 and Nov. 5.

The Elections P.E.I. Helpline is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday at 1-888-234-VOTE to assist Islanders in the process.

The results of the plebiscite are not binding, but the province can use them when deciding whether to change the current electoral system.
