Day 10 of P.E.I. campaign: Rural broadband, mental health announcements

Here are some of the events that happened on day 10 of the P.E.I. election campaign.

Here are some of the events that happened on day 10 of the P.E.I. election campaign.

Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan spent a big part of the day in West Prince. The visit included a noon announcement at the Tignish Municipal Building on mental health and addictions services. The party promised to step up recruitment efforts for psychiatrists and create a mental-health walk-in clinic in Tignish if it forms the next government.

MacLauchlan also campaigned in districts 23, 25, 26 and 27, before returning to central P.E.I. for door knocking in District 18 and his own home District 8.

The NDP made an announcement on rural broadband internetat 10 a.m. in Charlottetown. Leader Joe Byrne said an NDP government would provide Island-wide fibre broadband at national standards to the more than 80 communities identified by Industry Canada as eligible for expansion of the backbone.

The NDP also pledged to include tax incentives for small businesses to start up in rural communities, and basing management offices of new public services in outlying communities.

Byrne spent the rest of the day campaigning in his own District 12 in Charlottetown.

Progressive Conservative Leader Dennis King campaigned with party candidates in Prince County during the day. In the evening, he attended the Prince County Horsemen's Association awards dinner in Summerside and a community benefit for the Armstrong family in Charlottetown.

Green Leader Peter Bevan-Baker spent the day campaigning in his own District 17.
