How much rain fell during last night's storms?

A series of evening and overnight thunderstorms on Thursday which brought with them dark clouds, thunder and lightning dumped more than 20 millimetres of rain in some parts of the province.

More than 20 mm fell on Charlottetown, Summerside

Some Islanders saw more than 20 mm of rain dumped on them Thursday as thunderstorms passed over the province. (Kevin 'Boomer' Gallant/CBC)

A series of evening and overnight thunderstorms on Thursday which brought with them dark clouds, thunder and lightning dumped more than 20 millimetres of rain in some parts of the province.

Here are some of the precipitation totals recorded by Environment Canada:

  • North Cape: 37.1 mm.
  • Charlottetown: 20.8 mm.
  • Harrington: 4.3 mm.
  • St. Peters: 4.2 mm.
  • Maple Plains 3.8 mm.

The Island's volunteer weather stations also reported the following precipitation totals:

  • Summerside:28.1 mm.
  • O'Leary: 18.4 mm.
  • East Point: 13.8 mm.

CBC P.E.I. weatherman Kevin "Boomer" Gallant kept a watchful eye as the storms passed over the province.

Other Islanders also took to social media to capture stunning images of the storms.
