Small plane crashes in Hampton, P.E.I., with 3 aboard

A small single-engineplane carrying three people crashed in Hampton, P.E.I., on Sunday afternoon.

The people aboard the plane, a Cessna 172, were shaken up but not hurt.

The pilot,Paul Tymstra, said the plane's engine quit at 2,000 feet, forcing him to land the aircraft in a farmer's field.
Tymstra was able to land the plane on its wheels, but as it rolled downhill the nose dug into the earth, causing one of the wings to catch and the plane to flip over.

Tymstra, the owner ofSea Eagle Aviation of Charlottetown, was giving a sightseeing tour. The weather at the time was sunny and mild.

Sea Eagle Aviation is P.E.I.'s only flight school. It was given certification by Transport Canada as a flight school and sightseeing operation a few weeks ago.

RCMP and local firefighters responded to the scene. Transport Canada has taken over the investigation.
