People are taking about Island pork.- Melody Dover, Fresh Media

More than 30 restaurants, spread across the Island from Summerside to Georgetown, took part in the October promotion to encourage more people to eat Island pork. Each restaurant featured its own special pulled pork sandwich.

Melody Dover, president and creative director of Fresh Media, said while the final numbers are not in yet, there has clearly been an increase in demand over last year's campaign.

"There was one restaurant we were speaking with yesterday and as of last week they had sold 600 of the Porktoberfest sandwiches," said Dover.

"The restaurants are getting more traffic in their doors. People are taking about Island pork."

Dover said some local markets have actually been running out of certain pork products.

The winning sandwich and chef, decided by an online vote, will be announced next week.
