Potato Museum receives $49.5K donation

The Canadian Potato Museum in O'Leary is getting a nearly $50,000 boost from the sale of some special spuds in February.

During that month, close to 200,000 bags of heritage netted gems from Elmsale farmer John Griffin were sold at Sobey's stores across Atlantic Canada.

The two companies agreed to donate 25 cents from every bag sold to the museum.

Director Bill MacKendrick said the $49,500 donation will go a long way.

"Probably half of it will go towards cost overruns from the previous work that we did, and we're also looking at adding some new exhibits all the time and some money will go towards that as well," said MacKendrick.

"Plus we'll put some money in reserve for future endeavours."

MacKendrick said the museum also got exposure by being included on the bags.
