Province House clears out historical artifacts before repairs

Movers were busy at Province House in Charlottetown Monday as they loaded historical artifacts before shipping them to Halifax where they will be stored during years of extensive conservation work on the building.

Province House, built in 1847, requires major repairs, in particular to fix water damage between the two walls that make up the exterior of the building.

It still isn't known when work will begin. Parks Canada, which administers the building, is still waiting to award tenders.

Federal funding for the project is in the $20-million range.

The P.E.I. Legislature will sit next door in the Coles Building for the duration.
