Summerside Police Services say a woman was treated for minor injuries after one of their marked police cars struck a shopping cart the woman was pushing.

Police said the woman was walking in the Sobeys parking lot at the County Fair Mall in Summerside on Monday morning when a police car struck the shopping cart.

The officer driving the car checked on the woman, who at first refused medical treatment.

Another officer later took the woman to the Prince County Hospital to be examined.

She was treated for minor injuries and has since been released from hospital.

As per Summerside Police Services policy, the matter was turned over to the RCMP for investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the East Prince RCMP detachment.
