Recreational fishing season begins

The 2011 recreational fishing season began Friday on P.E.I.

The number of anglershas been declining in recent years.

The province is asking for suggestions on how to attract more people to the sport.

In addition, presentations on recreational fishing are being offered to newcomers to the island.

Angling licenses are available at retail outlets and access P.E.I. sites across the island.

This year, the province is investing $65,000 in fish stocks for the Cardigan Fish Hatchery.

Island rivers and streams will be restocked with more than 21,000 brook trout and about 15,000 Atlantic salmon.
