Royal visit prompts facelift for Cornwall church

Volunteers at Cornwall United Church have been putting in extra hours to get ready for the royal visit to P.E.I. and the preparations involve lots of scraping and painting.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are scheduled to stop at the church on the afternoon of May20as part of their Island visit.They will meet there with representatives of the Women's Institute, the Legion and seniors' organizations.

Kevin Sanderson, chair of the board of trustees at Cornwall United, said there was a lot of excitement when the visit was announced from the pulpit.

"In preparation for the royal visit, we are actually trying to spruce up our church a little bit," said Sanderson.

"We were planning on doing a number of things this year and set aside some dollars to do them anyway. And we are working on the exterior of the church, the front facade,and also we are doing a bit of work on the interior entryway, to just liven it up and freshen it up."

Some scraping has already begun and painting is planned for next week.

There will be an opportunity for the public to meet and greet the royal couple outside the church.

"I'm really looking forward to the community being excited about this event," said Sanderson.

He hopes as many peopleas possible will come out to give Charles and Camilla a royal welcome.
