Royal visit to cost Island taxpayers $100K

The P.E.I. government estimates it will spend about $100,000 to host Charles and Camilla later this month.

Most of costs will be spent on security for Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall

The P.E.I. government estimates it will spend about $100,000 to host Charles and Camilla later this month.

The Premier's office saidthe exact amount could be more or less, depending in part on security costs.
A spokesperson saidthe federal government will pay for VIP security, but any other required security will fall to the province and the city of Charlottetown to cost share.

Some preparation work at the Bonshaw park site is being paid for by Ottawa and the province.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall arrive in P.E.I. on the evening of Victoria Day and tour Charlottetown, Cornwall and Bonshaw on Tuesday.
