Runaway P.E.I. pet peacock caught after 6 weeks on the lam

Tango the runaway P.E.I. peacock is home after six weeks on the lam.

Kevin Cook captured his pet Sunday morning at the end of the Blue Shank Road near Summerside.

Since late July, Cook has been setting traps, using pre-recorded peacock sounds, stalking his colourful pet with a large net.

He even bought other peacocks in an attempt to lure Tango home, but nothing worked until this weekend.

As Cook and his son were watching a trap they had filled with dog food, Tango went in.

Cook followed, making sure the peacock could not get away.

"He loved his freedom, I will say that. He was one of those rogue peacocks capture was not what he wanted. But, you never know, he might get used to the other guys and he'll be happy," said Cook.

Cook says Tango was eating berries and foraging for other food while on the run.

He returned home at least once while Cook was onvacation, but took off again before Cook could pen him in.
