A new attraction at Sandspit Amusement Park in Cavendish, P.E.I. has replaced a spinning ride that made headlines last summer.

The new ride is The Cliffhanger, and features a 16-metre high drop tower.

To make room for The Cliffhanger, park officials said the Rok-N- Roll ride, two benches, a flower bed and a small tree were removed.

Girl injured on Rok-n-Rol ride

In August 2015, a 15-year-old Nova Scotia girl was thrown from the Rok-n-Roll and suffered minor injuries.

The girl's mother blamed inadequate staff training for the incident.

"Incidents do happen," Jelley said at the time. "We are sorry an incident occurred. We are sorry any time anybodyhas a disappointingexperienceat the park. We are in this business to provide fun."

Jelley saidrides are inspected every morning by staff and annually by the provincial ride inspector and Sandspit'sinsurance company and he's comfortable with the amount of training his staff receives.

A provincial inspector examined the ride and found no mechanical faults.

The Rok-n-Rol ride was installed at Sandspit in 1998.
