Sex crimes against teenagers earn 1-year sentence

A 51-year-old P.E.I. man was sentenced Tuesday to a year in jail for sex crimes against two teenagers.

Gary Thomas Livingstone pleaded guilty to five charges, including sexual exploitation, luring, procurement, and invitation to sexual touching.

Crown prosecutor John McMillan read an agreed statement of facts in court Tuesday.

He said when the youths were first approached by Livingstone they rebuffed hisadvances.

But Livingston began texting each of the boys. To one he sent photos of his penis, and invited the boy to send photos back. To both, he offered money in exchange for being allowed to perform oral sex on them.

One boy agreed.

Court heard they met every week or so between April 2012 and June of last year, in Livingstone's van, or in various buildings where Livingstone worked as a custodian. Livingstone gave the youth money, alcohol and cigarettes.

Crown prosecutor John McMillan told court there were half a dozen encounters in all.

Defence lawyer Thane MacEachern told court Livingstone was sexually abused as a child, and is receiving psychological counselling.

Chief provincial court Judge John Douglas sentenced Livingstone to one year in jail and30 months probation. The judge alsoordered him to provide a DNA sample to police, ordered his name be kept on the national sex offender registry for life, and issued a mandatory 10-year weapons prohibition against Livingstone.

Livingstone's daughter attended court with him and his wife wrote a letter of support.

MacEachern said Livingstone plans to move to Alberta after his release from jail.
