It was a big moment for 10-year-old Prince Edward Islander MarcyIves, alone in the net, with NHL superstar Sidney Crosby bearing down on her.

"When he took a shot, I saved it. I caught it in my glove," Marcy said.

"He was kind of going a little easy."

Marcy is attending the Sidney Crosby Hockey School in Nova Scotia this week. Just two years into her hockey career, she was picked for a spot at the summer camp.

Her favourite player?

Marcy was accepted to the camp despite naming Crosby as her second favourite NHL player on her application. As a goalie, she picked Montreal's Carey Price as her favourite.

"She was pretty excited, as we all were," said her father, Joel Ives.

"We knew it was a pretty big deal and a pretty special, once-in-a-lifetime, thing to be able to attend."

The camp is more than just a celebrity event, said her father. Marcy is getting plenty of one-on-one attention from coaches, including from Taylor Crosby, Sidney's younger sister, a goalie who plays NCAA hockey for the St. Cloud State Huskies in Minnesota.

"It's great for her to have a female role model," he said.

Marcy has big ambitions. She told CBC News she hopes to one day play for Canada in the Olympics.
