Souris gets funding for big waterfront projects

Ottawa, the P.E.I. government, the Town of Souris and the Souris Harbour Authority have joined together to fund hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of improvements to the town's waterfront.

The waterfront improvements include a new seawall and boardwalk, with commercial space and washroom facilities. There will also be upgrades at the Souris marina, including electrical work to better service large vessels, the extension of plumbing, and the repositioning of docks to accommodate additional vessels.

The total cost is close to $700,000.

"Solid infrastructure is the foundation for creating long-lasting communities and tourism potential," said Gail Shea, the federal minister responsible for P.E.I., in a news release.

"The Souris waterfront and the Beach Park Gateway feature exceptional scenery and create economic potential for the area."

Souris Mayor David MacDonald called the waterfront project a great example of the three levels of government working together.
