Study conducted after water restrictions brought in during summer, 2012

A recent survey shows a high percentage of Charlottetown residents are committed to water conservation efforts in their own homes.

The city had to bring in water restrictions during last years dry summer.

The survey was designed to measure steps people may be taking to reduce water use to prevent that from happening again.

The Water and Sewer Utility mailed the survey to over 700 homes in Charlottetown. More than 550 responses came in.

The survey found:

  • 70 per cent of respondents said they stopped or reduced watering their lawns or washing their cars.
  • 71 per cent thought the city should be focusing on both conservation and new water supply development.
  • 75 per cent of participants were in favor of mandatory metering of all water users and billing customers based on their water consumption.

The information will be incorporated into a water conservation plan for Charlottetown.
