Stratford keeps bus service

The Town of Stratford says it's not backing out of bus services, despite facing similar problems to the Town of Cornwall.

Transit 'aligns with sustainability goals,' says mayor

The Town of Stratford says it's not backing out of bus services, despite facing similar problems to the Town of Cornwall.

Last week Cornwall decided it would not be renewing its transit contract come June due to low ridership.

Stratford Mayor David Dunphy said his town thinks the transit service is too valuable to give up.

"Transit is something that aligns nicely with our sustainability goals within in the town, so we'll still continue on. I mean, we're certainly cognizant of the cost and we want to increase the ridership for sure, but we're still committed to the service for the Town of Stratford," said Dunphy.

Stratford and Charlottetown will revisit the contract with the with Trius Transit next summer, Dunphy said.

He doesn't expect the town will have to pay more for the service in the future.

The City of Charlottetown said it's also committed to renewing the contract.
