Gallant brought the topic up during the city council's planning meeting Tuesday, using the upcoming contract with the Western Capitals as an example of where more transparency would better serve taxpayers.

Gallant said he hopes in future any contact involving public money, would be made public.

"It should be accessible, that should be the same sentiment for most things, unless there's some legal binding issue that we have to adhere, and we're respectful of those situations when they come up, but they're not that frequent, then we should be putting that out there, so that going forward in future have access to info for all those who choose to look at it, that's really the whole objective," said Gallant.

Other council members agreed there needs to be more transparency when it comes to contracts but added those interested in doing business with the city also need to be assured of certain confidentiality.
