Summerside police are warning about a telephone scam where someone claims to be calling from Service Canada.

Sgt. Joe Peters of themajor crime section said the caller demands credit card payment for tax liens.

"Well, the last few days we received a few complaints in relation to an individual that has been calling residences and identifying themselves as an agent from Service Canada," said Peters.

"They would then proceed to tell the resident that they have a tax lien outstanding and demanding that they pay it or they would have police go and make seizures at their residence. They are asking for credit card information, which is very unusual."

Peters said police have confirmed the calls have not come from Service Canada.

He says this is not the way a professional organization would conduct business.
