The owner of T3 Transit hopesthe federal budget contains infrastructure money that will help his company acquire some new buses.

T3 Transit runs a bus service in Charlottetown, Stratford, Cornwall and Summerside.

Owner Mike Cassidy expects the budget will have a dedicated fund to help municipalities upgrade transit infrastructure but he's unsure what that will mean for his service.

"Our last purchase of buses was in '06, '07, '08, through a federal government program," said Cassidy. "So we are waiting to see this month what will the budget be, how much monies will be available for the province of Prince Edward Island to upgrade the T3 transit. So we know there is money, the big question is how much is it going to cost the municipality and our province if we tap into a designated transit fund."

Cassidy says his main goal is to upgrade the fleet over 2016 and 2017.

He says the ideal situation would be to have six to eight new buses to replace aging ones.

A new bus costs about $630,000, he says.
