$2.2M for UPEI renovations to research and innovation facilities

The University of Prince Edward Island has received $2.2 million in government funding that will be used forrenovations to two areas used by professors and students forresearch.

Of that amount, $1.53 million will be used for renovationsat Memorial Hall where the university's psychology research is conducted. The funds will repair the building's foundation, windows, walls, central air and heating systems in the building.

"This is a really timely investment from our point of view," said Kujundzic.

"There are many students who expressed an interest in psychology."

'Living lab' expanded

Renovations to theClinic for Patient Oriented Research in the Steel Building will expand the 'living lab' clinic with $673,600 in funding.

"The funding ... allows us to offer clinic space which enables us to provide the first pulmonary rehab program in the province," saidWilliamMontelpare, the patient-oriented research lead for science.

"We're actually working with Health PEI to provide the services, both an education program as well as quality of life and instruction in physical activities."

The university says the patient-oriented aspect of the project is important because it will provide a great space for more of the community to come onto campus and see the work being done there.
