UPEI president officially on the job

The new president of the University of Prince Edward Island officially takes over his new role Monday.

Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz is the sixth president and vice-chancellor of UPEI. He has already made a number of appearances since being named president in November, such as attendingthe New Year's levee and other meetings.

The new president will live in the Cornwall area with his wife and one of his sons.

A formal installation ceremony will take place during the fall semester.

Abd-El-Aziz received his undergraduate and master's degrees in Cairo and his doctorate from the University of Saskatchewan. He also did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto.

He previously worked as provost at the Okanagan campus of University of British Columbia in Kelowna . During his administrative career, he has also continued working as a chemistry professor and researcher.
