UPEI reappoints president to second 5-year term

Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz has been reappointed as the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island.

Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz has been reappointed as the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island.

He will serve a second five-year term.

The university's board of governors says it made the decision to reappoint Abd-El-Aziz after consultation with numerous stakeholders during the presidential review process. They included the campus community, government, and business and non-profit organizations.

In a news release, board of governor's chair Tom Cullen said since joining UPEI, Abd-El-Aziz worked to improve teaching, learning and research.

"He inspires everyone to do their very best and cares deeply about the success of UPEIs students, said Cullen.

During his first term, Abd-El-Aziz produced the UPEI Strategic Plan, a five year plan to guide the university in a number of areas including improving student success.

I am deeply honoured by the confidence extended to me by the Universitys Board of Governors andam delighted to have the opportunity to fulfill the strategic direction we have embarked on over the coming years, said Abd-El-Azizin therelease.

UPEI's board of governors is made up of 26 individuals drawn from the community at large and administrative, alumni, faculty, staff, and student representatives.
