Amount raised for soup kichen, food bank off target by about $9K

The Upper Room Angels campaign that raises money to buy food for the Upper Room Soup Kitchen and Food Bank in Charlottetown fell short of its 2013 fundraising goal of $84,000.

The actual amount raised was slightly over $75,000.

Each donor, or angel, makes a commitment to donate $52 a year or $1 for each week.

"People just don't seem to have as much money to give these days," said Nancy Barrett, co-ordinator of the Upper Room Angels.

"Well it could be the economy. I really don't know, because in the past we have made it and this year it's different. And I guess that not everybodycould afford it. We'll have to spread it, give less each week," said Barrett.

Barrett said she needs 172 more angels to make up the shortfall.

She is asking Islanders to dig deep and consider still being part of the campaign. People who are interested can call 902-569-5086.
