U.S. election: Cooler heads will prevail says P.E.I. MP

Wayne Easter, who co-chairs the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, says now that the voting is over the political reality will set in for president-elect Donald Trump.

The MalpequeMP said cooler heads will prevail now that the United States election hasbeen settled.

The Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Groupworks on issues common to both countries.

"The election campaign is over. He has to depend on everything he does getting through a Republican dominated Congress as well even though he's a Republican president they're fairly individualistic as senators and congressional reps in the states and so he's going to have to work with them," he told Island Morning.

Easter said most of the elected representatives in the U.S. make their decisions on fact-based research, not rhetoric.

He added he hoped thenew president wouldn't damage the trade relationships P.E.I. has for fish, potatoes and aerospace.
