Both the Western Hospital's emergency department and the collaborative emergency centre in Alberton are closed Thursday because of what Health PEI calls "a temporary lack of physician coverage."

Officials say the centres were closed for patient safety reasons.

The emergency department will reopen Friday at 8 a.m. and the collaborative emergency centre will reopen Friday at 8 p.m.

Anyone with urgent medical needs should call 911 or go to the emergency at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside.

For health concerns or information, call 811 to speak to a registered nurse.
