A P.E.I. wheelchair basketball player is spending his summer training with some of the best Canadian athletes in the sport.

Westley Johnston is in Toronto, getting ready for the world championship coming up in June.

He's on the Canadian Junior wheelchair basketball team, but he's training alongside the national men's team.

Johnston hopes that will give him an extra edgewhen he hits the court next month.

"The training is exactly what I needed to kind of give me an insight of what I need to get to the men's level and then kind of made me recognize also kind of where other countries stand in comparison to my own skill level and my own style of play," he said. "So it gives me the motivation to want to continue on get the opportunities that I have with basketball."

Johnston is the only Islander on the junior team this year.

He'll be joined by a few other Atlantic Canadians, including a player from New Brunswick and one from Nova Scotia.
