Fall heat breaks Estevan's daily high record set 110 years ago

The early fall heat in Saskatchewan broke more high temperature records on the weekend.

Monday's early morning cool, rainy weather follows a hot day that set new daily highs for 10 communities, including Estevanwhich saw a 110-year-old record fall to the 31.6 C high on Sunday.

The sunshine broke old records from Assiniboia to Hudson Bay, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

In Regina, the 32.6 C high beat the previous record for Sept. 29 set in 2022 by almost two degrees. Moose Jaw tied its daily high record of 33 C.

The provincial hotspot was Coronach with a scorching high of 34.5 C, more than three degrees above the record set in 2022. Meanwhile, Indian Head, Melfort, Rockglen and Weyburn also surpassed daily highs.

This wasn't the only early fall day to see high temperature records fall. A dozen Saskatchewan communities set new marks on Sept. 25.

For Monday, expect cooler temperatures and rainy conditions across the province. ECCC issued a wind warning for the Yorkton and Estevan areas, where winds gusts could reach 90 kilometres per hour in the afternoon.
