2 charged with murder in La Loche

Twomen from La Loche, Sask. have been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death Sunday of a man in the town.

A 29-year-old man, whom police haven't identified, was shoton the streetjust a few metres from the local RCMP detachment.

Curtis Ecklund, 26, and Richie Herman, 18,have been remanded in custodyafter appearingTuesday in La Loche Provincial Court. The two men are also facing weapons charges.

They'll be back in courtJune 24 atQueen's Bench Court in North Battleford.

The RCMP said the victim's family has asked that his name not be released.

In addition to the two men charged, police arrested and questioned three other people in connection with the man's death.

The investigation continues, the RCMP said.

La Loche is about 510 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert.
