2 Saskatchewan flu deaths reported, more expected in weeks ahead

Two people have died of influenza, Saskatchewan chief medical health officer Saqib Shahab confirmed Friday.

The province's medical health officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, told reporters Fridaythat the flu season started late due to mild weather, but it's here now andthe numbers have been increasing in recent days.

In addition to the two deaths, there were 10 people with flu admitted to intensive care wards, Shahab said.

It's expected there will be more deaths and ICU admissions in the next four to six weeks, he said.

The strain of flu circulating this year is H1N1. A flu shotisone way people can protect themselves, health officials say.
