More than 13,000 forest fire evacuees

In what is being called the biggest evacuation effort in Saskatchewan's history, more than 13,000 people had to leave their homes in the north.

Premier Brad Wall said the number of evacuees affected by raging wildfires in the province's northern regions is "unprecedented."

Federal election includes 2 recounts in Saskatchewan, 3 new NDP seats

In two of the narrowest ridings in the country, the NDP claimed Regina-Lewvan by a margin of 132 votesand Desneth-Missinippi-Churchill River by 82 votes. The Conservative Party lost three seats to the NDP. It was the first time the NDP won any federal seat in Saskatchewan since the 2000 election.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders had their worst record since 1999. In an attempt to rebuild, the team cut 19 players, and poached nine coaches from the Edmonton Eskimos.

Police seize 200 firearms, $100,000 and charge 14 people in Project Forsetti

Saskatoon Policeraided the Hells Angels clubhouse in Saskatoon and private homes. In the organized crime bust police seized 145 pounds of marijuana, 3,358 fentanyl pills as well as other drugs and weapons. Police also laid hundreds of charges.

HIV infections on Sask. reserves is 11 times higher than the national rate

Numbers on HIV rates in Saskatchewan served as a wakeup call. According to the most recent numbers available from Health Canada, there were 64 new infections per 100,000 people on reserves, compared with 5.9 per 100,000 in the country as a whole.

Saskatchewan government plans to privatize 40 government-owned liquor stores

The Saskatchewan government 40 stores will be sold to private operators, if the same party is re-elected in 2016. The move would affect 196 employees, and dramatically change the way alcohol sales work in the province.
