Two highway crashes Saturday morning in Saskatchewan have claimed 3 lives.

Two highway crashes Saturday morning in Saskatchewan have claimed 3 lives.

The first accident took place around 7 a.m., local time, and involved a car and a semi-trailer transport truck, RCMP said.

The crash was on Highway 9, about five kilometres south of Whitewood. That is about 175 kilometres east of Regina.

Police said the driver of the car died in the crash. No information about the identity of the victim was released. Police said the semi driver suffered minor injuries.

A section of the highway was closed so police could investigate. Detours have been set up. Police said the road might be reopened later in the afternoon.

Another accident Saturday morning, involving two passenger vehicles, claimed two lives.

That crash happened on Highway 13.

Police said the collision took place around 8:45 a.m., local time, approximately eight kilometres east of Stoughton.

That is about 140 kilometres southeast of Regina.

It was not immediately clear if the victims came from one of the vehicles involved, or both. No names were released. And police reported others may have been injured in the crash, but did not have details.

Police were still investigating and had shut down the highway in the area. Detours were expected to last until mid-afternoon Saturday.
