Accused went for beer after shots fired: Witness

A man who has been in a witness protection program for over a year told a Regina court Wednesdayhe supplied the gunlinked to two slayingsin Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask.,in 2007.

The witness, Gerrard Granbois, said he was at his girlfriend'shome on the Okanese First Nation, north of Fort Qu'Appelle, when he got a phone call from the accused, Daniel Richard Wolfe, who asked for a gun that was in the house.

Wolfe, 33, is being tried on two counts of first-degree murder in the Sept. 20, 2007, deaths of Marvin Arnault, 51, and Michael Itittakoose, 24.

Granbois testified that Wolfe said he needed the firearm because he had some trouble at a Fort Qu'Appelle bar.

The witness said Wolfecame tothe home, tookthe gun and drove with Granbois back to Fort Qu'Appelle.

Later that night, Granbois said he stood by a van while Wolfe and a young man went into a home with their faces covered. Then he heard shooting and, moments later, Wolfe and the youth ran back to his van.

Went for beer

Granbois testified that after the shooting they bought some beer, dropped the young man off and then drove to a friend's place to drink.

In the Fort Qu'Appelle house, two men were killed and three other people were hit by bullets and survived. Wolfe and the 16-year-old were later arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

They are being tried separately.

Wolfe is originally from Winnipeg and still has ties to that city.

Fort Qu'Appelleis a community of 1,919 about 75 kilometres northeast of Regina.
