Andrew Pasap identified as 19-year-old who died of injuries in Regina

A 19-year-old man who died in Regina after being rushed to hospitalearly Saturday morning has been identified as Andrew Pasap.

Pasap was an active member of the local Brazilian JiuJitsu scene, competing and often winning competitions. In 2014 Pasap won double gold at the CopaSask,Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling tournament.

Facebook posts about Pasap commented on the young man's maturity, commitment to his family and his status as a role model in his community.

According to relatives and friends,Pasapwas expecting his second child.

Early-morning call to police

The Regina Police Service (RPS)received a call about an injured manon the 900 block of Albert Street at about 2:20 a.m. CST Saturday.

When officersarrived they foundPasapinjured. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital by ambulance.

Police said they were working with the chief coroner's office to investigate the death. Forensics and major crimes units are also involved in the investigation.

The service did not say whether Pasap's death is being treated as a homicide though onemember of the RPS said thereis a court date Tuesday morning related to the investigation.

The White Pony Lodge is holding a candle light vigil forPasapthis Thursday. The location has yet to be decided.
