As election call looms, flurry of federal cash announced in Sask.

There's been a shower of federal cheques in Saskatchewan in the last few days as speculation mounts that an election call is imminent.

From Monday to Friday,Conservative MPs and cabinet ministerswere announcing millions in federal money for roads, sewers, curling rinks and more in the province..

On Friday, Saskatchewan Conservative MPKelly Block was involved inannouncements along with provincial politicians and officials on26 water, sewer and road projects in various cities, towns and villages.

The federal contributionstotalled$11.4 million andrangedfrom$1.6 million for a water treatment upgrade in Meadow Lake to$33,000 for arsenic filters in Loon Lake.

Pools, curling rinks being upgraded

A day earlier, it was Conservative MP Andrew Scheer's turn. He announced $535,388 in federal money for seven programs, including a pool upgrade in Cupar and a skating rink refurbishment in Indian Head.

One of the busiest Conservatives in the past few days has been Palliser MP Ray Boughen. He announced $810,000 for affordable house units in Regina on Wednesday, plus$136,000 for a "trench art" exhibition in Moose Jaw.

On Monday, he was part of the announcement for a $482,547 donation to the Pla-Mor Palace Arena in Moose Jaw and a $123,500 contribution to the Pense Memorial Rink.

Ritz also busy

Agriculture Minister and Battlefords-LloydminsterMP Gerry Ritzhas also been involvedin a slew of announcements in recent days, including a $10-million federal contribution to a livestock and forage centre of excellence at the University of Saskatchewan.

CBC News has learned that an election call could come as early as Sunday. Election day is fixed at Oct. 19.
