Best looking dairy goats to face off at Canadian Western Agribition

Winning the competition is good business for the farm

Sandy Laroque is hoping her dairy goats will get a first place win at the Dairy Goat Show Tuesday at the Canadian Western Agribition in Regina.

Preparing dairy goats for a show is no simple task. Laroque, who is a long-time dairy goat farmer based in Sifton, Man., gave her nine goats a makeover before the competition.

She clips the hair around the udders to make sure the judges can see them properly. She also trims up the excess hair around the hooves, and then cuts off the beards of her goats. It's a standard practice for dairy goat shows.

"They don't look very feminine if they have a beard," Laroque said.

The Dairy Goat Show is back after several years of being absent from the agribition. Laroque hopes plenty of good competition is in the ring on Tuesday.

"You don't want to go into the ring and walk around and be given a first-place win, but you're the only one in the ring, right? It doesn't mean anything."

Laroque says a win would mean big advertising for her farm.

"People have seen you, you've been out in the shows, you've got records," she said. "It's very good for the farm, it's very good business."
